  • The need for a clear and coherent Theory of Change.
  • How the change that the Ontario Trillium Foundation is working toward is anchored in a clear way to measure impact.

Andrea Cohen Barrack, CEO of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, will discuss her vision for Canada’s largest granting foundation. OTF’s strategy of “Investing for Impact” depends on the ability to demonstrate impact. She will be joined by Robin Cory, of Colbeck Strategic Advisors, who will speak about the need for a clear and coherent Theory of Change. Bryan Smale, of the University of Waterloo, will discuss the Canadian Index of Wellbeing – and how the change that OTF is working towards is anchored in a clear way to measure impact.

Presenter Bio
Andrea Cohen Barrack, 
CEO of the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Andrea believes that a strong public benefit sector is critical for supporting healthy and vibrant communities. She is dedicated to strengthening the NFP sector by building capacity which promotes civic participation and encourages innovation. A transformative leader, she has a demonstrated history of both developing strategies which promise positive change and leading others to deliver on those promises. She came to OTF following a lengthy and successful career in community healthcare, most recently as CEO of Unison Health and Community Services. She is recognized for her expertise in making organizations more effective by ensuring that systems are integrated and impact is both measured and assessed.

Robin Cory, Partner, Colbeck Strategic Advisors

Robin advises mission-driven organizations and leaders seeking greater strategic clarity. As a coach, facilitator and strategist, she brings many years of experience working with both foundations and non-profit organizations to increase their social impact. Prior to co-founding Colbeck, Robin served as the Project Manager for the Canadian Task Force on Social Finance and was the first leader of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada Foundation. She is an active volunteer and board member and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School where she focused on non-profit management.

Bryan Smale, Ph.D., is the Director of the Canadian Index of Wellbeing

Ph.D., is the Director of the Canadian Index of Wellbeing housed in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo (UW) and a Professor in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, with a cross-appointment to the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at UW. He also is a Research Faculty Associate in the Waterloo Institute for Social Innovation and Resilience.
